Fungicide Treatment

Our fungicide treatment is designed to kill mold on wood, and is also a preventative measure to help prevent future mold growth.

Preventative Treatments

For the prevention of mold growth on wood, we use a spray treatment that has been shown to prevent or reduce mold growth for a period of ten years or more. The solution soaks into the wood and coats the surface; and should remain active in and on the wood unless there is a significant amount of water to wash it away.

This treatment is not an alternative to fixing the moisture problems in the area, but it serves as another line of defense against mold.

Mold prevention treatments are especially useful when homes are first constructed to prevent mold from becoming an issue on structural framing. Treating an entire home for mold is very cost effective during the construction process.

Fungicide Treatments as Mold Remediation

Treatment of mold with a fungicide is not sufficient for mold remediation in indoor living areas. The treatment kills mold, but it does not remove the staining or hyphal fragments, and it can cause the mold to spread spores. For these reasons, we generally only recommend the fungicide treatment as a remediation solution in crawl spaces and attics where the living areas of the home are unlikely to be affected by spore dispersal.

The application of a fungicide can be a less expensive alternative to hand sanding or media blasting, greatly reducing the cost of mold remediation in attics, crawl spaces, and outdoor areas.

This fungicide treatment kills mold on wood and helps to prevent future growth, but may not remove the mold stains from the wood. For removal of the mold stains, this treatment can be used with our mold cleaning treatment, which is specially designed to remove the stains and surface growth, leaving the wood looking clean.
